As it was mentioned in the «Dx of the day!» link, Serguei (HC1ACW) and I went down to the coast so we could
refresh our logs with a new contacts from the HC4 region, to be more exact QTH Canoa, which is located near Bahia de Caraquez. Serguei was on air in the mobile
style station with the original construction holder of the antenna, and yet I got the even more serious preparation! I had with me a tent, a Yaesu FT-1000MP,
computer, which obviously was not made for expeditions, the G5RV antenna (by the way this antenna is really adequate one for this kind of expeditions),
and the last but not least I had with me this wonderful watch with an electric compass and the ability to sent e-mails, which I borrowed from Andy (NP3D),
which earlier bought it at Wal-Mart in New York for $38, 95 plus tax.
We got set up on a little hill in front of the Pacific Ocean (the view is insane!),
approximately 30 meters below the sea level. Right there at this spot the construction of the
Dx- holiday hotel has been started. I got to hang my G5RV antenna in the empty space,
almost 20 meters upper than the hill we were on. The electricity was connected from the neighbor’s territory,
so with that there were no problems and everything was going as it should! Even the SWR of the antenna worked 1:1,5
almost on all of the diapasons, which is rarely happens. The level of the noise less than 1 point! I could hear the
stations with the one point signal for about 20 and 40 meters! Is this possible in some city with its conditions? No, it’s not!
But what’s the sense of all that good stuff if there is no propagation?! It was not enough with all
those pretty and good things that were surrounding us, because we were missing the most important- the propagation!
During the first night I got only 30 communications, which is completely ridiculous. Thanks to the
Yaesu company for this amazing DVS-2 for FT-1000MP addition, if not for that I would lose my voice at the end of all that!
These things happen….! The next days it got better, in total were made 340 QSO, almost all of them on 40 and 20 meters.
All of other diapasons were closed. Serguei, HC1ACW, got even less luck; from his mobile antenna he almost did not hear
anything.
The stations which were answering the most were from Australia , New Zealand , Japan , South Africa ,
with out counting the local ones. My signal was really loud in whole South America ; I’d prefer to be that loud in Europe.
Some of the exotic countries that I had a chance to work to were South Korea , Madagascar , Solomon Islands ,
French Polynesia and South Pole- «Mirniy» (R1ANB op. Valentine).
So at the end it is no so bad for the days with no propagation, isn’t it?

The G5RV antenna we left hanging right where it was, on the coast, so we will come back and it’ll be ready. Don’t think that it will take long until we go back there. So we’ll see you on the air! Keep on checking the «Dx of the day!» link!
